Gestalt Robotics in 2020: a recap

For many, 2020 will go down as one of the most turbulent years of the still-young millennium. We at Gestalt Robotics were able to navigate the year well through stormy waters as a company and home for almost 30 employees by now.

Welcome to another edition of "The year’s recap - a Gestalt summary".

While the outbreak of the Covid19 pandemic and its restrictions on all aspects of life is probably the most impactful experience, we still made memories in many other areas. In addition to several submissions to a variety of conferences, we were also written about several times in the press, which took an interest in our work; many events took place digitally but did not hesitate to feature great presentations, including as guest speakers or plenary participants.

Of course, a company would be nothing without its projects. Large new customers, as well as established and trusted existing customers, presentable funded projects and results of numerous research projects in AI, image processing, AR service platforms, robotics, and autonomous mobility: we developed cross-factory autonomous transport fleets using AI and 5G, built robotics demonstrators for large trade shows, created state-of-the-art machine vision solutions in heavy industry as well as pharma and logistics, overlooked the launch of the "Werner-von-Siemens-Centre" innovation project, and advocated for better collaborative workplace integration for humans and machines at several clients.

Funded project highlights

BaSyMoRo (Project lead), secure AR (BMBF with Siemens, Airbus and Fraunhofer), WvSC (Berlin’s Innovationcampus), Better Factory (EU), RoboAppEE (BMBF)

Besides successes at hackathons and competitions, we are also very happy about the expansion of our workspaces: not only did we professionalize our robotics lab, but it also delivered such good results that by now 2 large rooms are just full of machinery. And we found terrific additional rooms in no time to double our work real estate and make room for all the new colleagues. This bundle of new colleagues came to us in a socially very reduced time, but all of them have already provided interpersonal as well as professional enrichment on many levels.
