Case-Study: Edge-enabled autonomous mobility & AI as a service

Edge-AI on 5G – Enhanced Solutions for Autonomous Navigation, Environmental Sensing, and Human-Robot Collaboration

Edge Computing on the enterprise campus offers the best of both worlds for modern automation systems: highly scalable computing and data sovereignty.

We are excited to share our collaboration with German Edge Cloud and Fraunhofer IPK in order to pilot Edge-based navigation and AI “as a Service” with the help of a low-latency 5G campus network.

At Berlin’s renowned Production Technology Center, our joint project is considering the following features:

  • Offloading realtime-critical software service to the Edge

  • Implementing redundancy concepts to guarantee 100% uptime

  • Flexible scaling of AI services

  • Semantically enhanced safety and human-robot collaboration

  • Seamless M2M communication with stationary robots and manipulators
