Customer's Problem

BASF was faced with the challenge that the manual preparation of samples for spectrographic analysis was time-consuming and error-prone. The existing method limited throughput and required high human resources, especially for large sample volumes. In addition, errors or problematic samples often led to delays as the process was interrupted in such cases. An automation solution was required to increase sample throughput, handle errors dynamically and significantly improve efficiency in the laboratory.

Our solution

We developed a flexible, robotic sample handling module with two high-precision robotic arms and advanced computer vision for precise handling of glass vessels and liquids. The integration of adaptive workflows enables the system to skip problematic samples and reprocess them later instead of stopping the entire process. A specially developed Human Machine Interface allows intuitive operation and gives laboratory staff full control over the automation process.
